Where do I go from here...

As a freelancer, we should ask to ourselves this question: "Where do I go from here?" It seems that people have got used to: "I know it all already". People don't want to continue searching for ways to improve their marketing skills in freelancing. Why is that there are so many great freelancers on freelance sites but only some of them are able to get jobs constantly? Is because they know how to market themselves.

How can you do learn to market your skills? There are several ways but the two best ways are: work as a freelancer for some years in order to learn what is required to be successful as a freelancer OR hire a successful freelance mentor that will teach you everything you need to know about being successful in your favorite freelance website (recommended).

If you are looking for mentors, we have REAL experienced successful freelancers just waiting for you to subscribe so that they can assist you. Why not choose a mentor today?:

Challenges...

Life its filled with challenges both big and small. We often decide to take up some of those challenges and we find it rewarding. People that take up challenges are usually the most successful people around the world.

In the world of freelancing, there are challenges that any freelancer or business owner faces. The challenge of biding on projects not knowing if buyer will even put attention to our proposals, the challenge that as a business owner we might not know which freelance worker to select for our project.

But taking up challenges is not the only thing important for success, how you take up those challenges is what's important. How to you approach them? The best way that you approach a challenge, the best outcomes that you can expect.

Our mentors on our site are here for that purpose, they want to help you face the challenges that you have as a freelancer and as a business owner. They want to help you approach those challenges in the most positive and effective way since they already have years of experience as freelancers and business owners.

Help, help, we all need help, at any given point in our lives we might not need it anymore but to jump start your freelancing career, what better way than with the help of a mentor?

Freelancing requires hard work...

Many people look freelancing just as another opportunity to make money. However, many people are under the impression that success doing freelance work will come to them just by having amazing technical skills.

It's true, technical skills are very helpful but if you want to stand out from your competition and really take freelancing serious, it requires that you surround yourself with the resources and information that can help you get to where you want to go. Hiring a mentor to guide you is a sure path to your success in freelancing. A mentor can give you all the support you have always wanted.

Freelancing can help you get money when you work on freelance websites like Guru.com, RentACoder.com, Elance.com or on any other freelance website but it does require dedication, willingness, and humility to let yourself be guided by a mentor if you really want to succeed as a freelancer.

Sincerely,

Luis Lazo
Owner of RACsuccess.com

Some proposals you probably have seen before...

I just wanted to talk to you about a hot topic in the world of freelancing. We all know already that there is nothing more important to get projects as a freelancer than the proposal that you write on the projects on wish you bid on.

Many freelancers don't know the great importance of the first comment (cover letters as they call them on oDesk.com) you ever write to a buyer or business owner but in fact, the proposal you write on projects has a lot to do if you end up getting that project or not.

I just wanted to write this blog posting to show some examples of proposals which you have probably seen that freelancers have written on real projects. It is important to highlight that the following are examples of INEFFECTIVE proposals because of many reasons:

1. "Dear sir, I can do this job"

2. "Dear sir, after reviewing your requirements, I am confident that I can help you on this project. We are a team of 7 programmers with vast experience in PHP, VB .Net, and Java and we have created lots of projects for other clients around the world. Trust us, we are the right candidates for this project."

3. "Greetings, after reviewing your requirements, I am confident that I can help you out. Is it possible we can have a phone conversation to discuss your project?"

4. "Sir, interesting project, I believe I can help you out with this. However, I don't think I can dedicate that much to this project, I can probably dedicate some hours to it though."

5. "Dear Sir, you have provided a very detailed description of your project. I believe that this project should be developed in PHP and MySQL. I have created tons of websites for other clients in php and mysql, have a look at the following samples:

http://www.exampleone.com
http://www.exampletwo.com
http://www.examplethree.com

Doing this project for you will not be a problem for us. Have confidence that we can help you out.

Kind regards,

XXXX name"

As you can see on the above examples, these are really INEFFECTIVE proposals, don't ask us why. We have been there, we know what works and what doesn't.

These are proposals that tend to be considered bad or simply average proposals which are not effective as to the point as to put yourself on buyer's mind as the first person that they would select for their project.

Why the Current Situation Is a Crisis Only if You Let It to

Being a freelancer and working in the online medium definitely carries some risk. There is no safety net to fall back to in case the contracts stop pouring in and relationships you have spent a long time building can be gone in a blink of an eye.

The current economical situation is definitely not helping in this respect. It simply seems that there are fewer projects out there and that those tend to offer a much lower pay. Appearances can be deceiving though, because in every crisis there’s a hidden opportunity.

How do these opportunities work? Well… a real example is perhaps the best answer. About 10 years ago there was another crisis (which coincidentally struck much closer to home). It was branded the dotcom bubble. Companies and lives were destroyed, it was practically an economical fallout. Beyond the headlines though, new ideas were steaming and new companies and careers were taking shape. As we speak, the majority of the Fortune 500 companies were founded during that era.

How does this apply to you? Well, try to see it this way. What are you doing now? You are probably searching frantically for new projects, trying to outdo yourself, acquiring new skills all the time and trying to create your own opportunities rather than simply waiting for them.

This crisis will eventually pass, as all other things in this little world of ours. When that moment will come, you will find yourself stronger, more knowledgeable and with an inner strength you simply did not know was there. So here is my advice: don’t give up and let yourself be pushed around, push back, adapt, try to broaden the ways you find new work, try to seek new niches you can cater to and in the end it will all be worth it.

In the end I would like to give you one tip on how exactly you can accomplish this. If the market for your specific skills seems to have dried out, start thinking of who could use your skills and more importantly what sort of other projects they would most likely have at the moment. If you find these projects, you have found your potential customers and from that point on anything is possible. It’s proactive, adaptive strategies like these that will keep you afloat.

We will only hire mentors that have excellent client feedback/ratings. We will continue to search for mentors.

Is winning bids like auctions?

There are so many freelance websites and there are so many freelance workers applying/bidding on projects. The question that arises is: how to win bids? If 20 or 30 freelancers bid on a project, how can you make sure you are the one who wins?

Is biding on projects like auctions? Of course is not... Can you imagine if the freelance world were like auctions, all freelance workers would be the happiest people on earth! :-) This is because the highest bidders would always end up winning the projects.

The truth of the matter is that winning bids is not like auctions. Normally, business owners or buyers are looking to choose the lowest bid. However, there is one thing many freelancers are not aware of and that is the fact that business owners that outsource projects are willing to work and to pay extra when they find a freelancer that appears to them as being in charge.

The thing is that buyers are looking to work with someone that gives them confidence that if they leave their projects in a freelancer's hands, the freelancer can take care of everything.

How do you show buyers that you are in charge? Well, you do that by first impressions. How do you make a good first impression to a buyer? With the proposal that you write to him/her to any of his/her projects. A proposal is nothing more than the first comment or message you ever write to a buyer when as a freelancer you bid on their projects.

But how do you know what to write to buyers? How can you show them that you are the one in charge? How do you know if what you write to them will work or not? Are there positive ways to approach buyers? Of course, this knowledge and insight can only be gained by working for years as a freelancer. Any successful freelancer already knows how to write good proposals that show buyers that they are in charge.

The good news is that you don't have to wait for years and years to develop this skill. Our mentors here on our site are really successful freelancers and they will actually write the proposals for all the projects that you wish to get as a freelancer on any freelance site. This is one of the benefits that RACsuccess-One-On-One service offers you other than the advice that you can get from a mentor for any specific concern or situation that you may have.

So why not get the help of a mentor today?:

Welcome to RACsuccess Blog!

Hi everyone, Luis Lazo here. I am the owner of RACsuccess.com. I know many freelancers and many business owners that outsource projects on many freelance websites. If you still don't know anything about me, I want to introduce myself to you.

I hope you don't have anything against Spanish speaking people. I am from Guatemala, located in Central America. I came to the US almost 7 years ago. I apologize if my writing has any problems with grammar or anything but this is the best that I can write so if you find any problems in my writing on this blog, please have some patience with me. :-)

After working as a freelancer for many years, I saved some thousands of dollars. I found it very easy to work as a freelancer but I noticed that this was not the case for all freelancers and business owners that outsource projects. For others it seemed tedious and difficult to win bids on freelance jobs and to hire qualified coders for their projects. Even for people who won bids once in a while, I notice they were not able to squeeze all the juice that there is out of freelancing.

Then I thought that there should be a way to help them. It is then when I decided to spend each and every cent that I had saved and I started with RACsuccess.com with the purpose of helping anyone to be successful on their favorite freelance website whether that be RentACoder.com, Guru.com, Odesk.com, or any other freelance site.

Initially everything started with a set of videos I created to teach people how to succeed in RentACoder.com as a freelancer and as a buyer but then, our company expanded to other freelance websites when I introduced RACsuccess-One-On-One service which puts mentors in contact with members who need of their assistance in order to help them be successful in their favorite freelance site.

Mentors are really successful freelancers and business owners that outsource projects that are at the disposition of our members to help them be successful in any major freelance website.

Well, that's enough about me and our company I think... lol... I don't want to make this blog a conversation only about me. I want to give you a warm welcome for visiting our blog. I do encourage friendly discussions on this Blog. You don't even need to have an account in order to posts comments on this blog.

Here on this blog you can also watch some YouTube videos related to freelancing on the right side of this page. You can watch them right from this page without having to leave our blog. You are also welcome to comment regarding the videos. Just note that the videos are not from RACsuccess, they come from YouTube!

Well, this is just the beginning, I want to get to know you all. You are welcome to write friendly and respectful postings on our blog.
